Second Career
Second Career Funding. Do You Qualify?
If you’ve been laid off within the last 12 months and are currently unemployed or working less than 20 hours a week, you may qualify for Second Career.
Your Second Career Starts Here
Second Career is a newly created Ontario government program designed to help unemployed workers who commit to a long-term training plan make the transition to new careers in growing areas of the economy.
Second Career helps people get the training or education they need to get a good job. It is a cost-sharing grant provided on the basis of need, so you may be asked to contribute what you can to your training or education. It may provide financial support up to $28,000 to pay for things like:
• Tuition
• Books
• Living expenses
• Help caring for dependents
• Travel
• Transportation
• Disability supports
• Basic living allowance (during skill training)
Additional costs may be considered for disability accommodation, dependent care, living away from home and academic upgrading.
For more information about how you can benefit from the Second Career Strategy, call the toll-free Employment Ontario hotline at 1 800.387.5656, go to Second Career website.
